Checking Sources - A Reminder

I received an email from my father yesterday containing a link to an article about Barack Obama being anti-semitic. The article was "well researched," contained interesting information about who he surrounds himself with, and in general gave a somewhat convincing argument about why liberal Jewish supporters of Israel may want to vote for someone other than Obama. Convincing, enough, for the subject of the email to read: "Well, I was going to vote for him, but now I'm not anymore."

But if you looked further at the article (which I will not link to) you notice a few odd things. First, the way this man attacks Obama is, quite frankly, much more spiteful than a normal liberal Jewish person would attack anyone who is generally on their side. Why? Because we're used to the left wing not approving of Israel. If we had that big a problem with progressives who don't support Israel, there is no way 85% of us would still be able to lean that way.

Secondly, the media loves making out politicians to be anti-semitic, or racist, or sexist, or what have you. So why would we not have heard of this before? Surely this article on this blog could not have been the first time anyone has uncovered this information, but the author does not source other articles or take their information directly from outside sources (when I referred to the article as "well researched" - I said this because it contained a lot of detailed facts). So I googled the name of the website as well as the author. Sure enough, the website is known solely for its undying love for Rush Limbaugh, and the author has written such articles as "Why you MUST vote for Bush if you consider yourself a good Jew." Even if what he had written was true (it's not), it needs to come from a credible source before it's going to influence my opinion of the person it's attacking. Unless it's about Cheney. God I hate him.

So what have we learned? We've learned that trusting any online source, even something that looks as legitimate as a regular news organization, should not be done without proper research into the person and website making the claims. Lying and blatantly biased inferences are not just true of NeoConservatives. Even if I read something on a liberal website, I will always check out the credibility of the sources before coming to any rash conclusions.

Rush Limbaugh Calls Anti-War Veterans "Phony Soldiers"

So Brian McGough, a former staff sergeant who was wounded in Iraq, starred in a VoteVets.org ad saying: "Rush, the shrapnel I took to my head was real, my traumatic brain injury was real and my belief we are on the wrong course in Iraq is real. Until you have the guts to call me a phony soldier to my face, stop telling lies about my service."

To which Limbaugh responded by comparing McGough to a suicide bomber, presumably before he wet himself and abused more drugs, but we can't be sure.

Limbaugh called the ad "a blatant use of a valiant combat veteran, lying to him about what I said, then strapping those lies to his belt, sending him out via the media in a TV ad to walk into as many people as he can walk into."

Yeah. How dare you Brian. How dare you listen to Rush's comments completely in context and think he had anything negative to say about the anti-war veterans. Why would you think Rush has any disrespect for you, I mean, he called you a "valiant combat veteran" before comparing you to a suicide bomber.

The Rev. Jerry Falwell, who founded the Moral Majority and built the religious right into a political force, died Tuesday shortly after being found unconscious in his office at Liberty University, a school executive said. He was 73.

I don't know the background, I don't really care. But I found this on YouTube. It's a guy named Shabazz (Shabazz?) Calling Malkin a political prostitute.

I'm a little disappointed, though, that people keep stealing my one-liners. I used the phrase "Political Prostitute" over 126 days ago. Thanks to technorati for allowing me to search my own site. I also used the phrase "Conservative Concubine" so if you hear that on the news, that person is stealing my phrase too. Hooray for alliteration.

The Politics of Paris Hilton

She's related to Zsa Zsa Gabor, the Bush tax cuts saved her an estimated 91,000,000 dollars and now she's "exposed" The heiress to the Hilton fortune and daughter of two semi-influential Republicans (who generally stay out of the limelight, Paris Hilton is the result of Republicans breeding. Just like the Christian Right, the biggest word she knows is "Missionary."

So why does Dinesh D'Souza blame the Democrats for the terrorist attacks in his new book "The enemy at home: The cultural left and its responsibility for 9/11."

Since the title is so vague, the gist of the book can be seen his his interview with Stephen Colbert:

As delusional as it seems, Mr. D'Souza (who, in 1984, believed that women should not be educated with men) has decided that liberals are responsible for 9/11, instead of... say... a terrible foreign policy. This intellectually stunted style of thought (which from now on I will refer to as "Malkinesque") is the reason that Neoconservatives have no rational or original ideas for fixing problems. Poor Economy? Liberals. Broken Marriages? Liberals. Global Warming? Liberal Conspiracy.

But who is responsible for Paris Hilton? Who is responsible for stopping science? Who is responsible for the failures in Iraq - creating breeding grounds for terrorism across the middle east? Who is responsible for shooting his friend in the face?

Once Malkinesque "pundits" reach around behind them and yank their heads out of Rush Limbaugh's monstrous ass, maybe they will learn that it may be their impotent thinking that is ruining the country, and that breeding little neocon babies is the reason that Paris Hilton and Iraq are failures.

I thought these were funny. Neocon talk show host/blogger Michelle Malkin - Exposed like Paris Hilton.

I got the picture above of the Filipino conservative in a bikini from a website called www.psychophil.com. I don't know if it is real, but it looks a lot like her, and regardless it is funny. She would have been 21 at the time, and still attending Oberlin college, which would explain her youth and perkiness. But supposedly it is fake, especially because psychophil.com is actually a conservative libertarian blog and that is actually a fan of Malkin.
