Summing of the News of the Day

Lots of news from the New York Times:

80 people were killed in Baghdad today, and the UN brings the death toll in Iraq for 2006 to 34,000... But I heard that the ones that are still alive are totally greeting us as liberators. All 17 of them. Who'd have thought the decapitation of Saddam's brother would spur a public outcry?

Barack Obama has finally created his exploratory committee for the 2008 presidential election (Woo! Obama '08!), and has begun collecting donations as dipping his toes into the public water. He also said he would make a decision by February 10th, becoming one fo the only people to give him/herself a deadline. See previous posts about my thoughts on his bid for the presidency.

The Golden Globes are over. Life, surprisingly, goes on.

The idea of abolishing the electoral college and winning by popular vote has made some headway, so that we will never again have a competent president elected only to be replaced by a mentally handicapped monkey simply because of an operations error.

And 51% of women are living without a spouse for the first time in... ever. And you know who I blame? The gays. With their impeccable sense of style and effeminate hand gestures. How dare they not date and impregnate women and live in a unhappy marriage based on a lie, leaving the couple and their children miserable until sweet, sweet death finally knocks on the door. Gah... selfish.

Two things:
#1) At least you libs are finally admitting that the Iraqi people support our efforts. You still can't do it without a negative spin, but at least it's a start.

#2) Do you think you could take a moment to explain to me exactly what it is that Barack Hussein Obama has done that qualifies him to be president? I don't want to hear about what he's said or what he thinks what about something he's done? Sure he might have some good ideas, but I don't take any politician at his or her word, especially a Democrat. We're talking about the guys who think Ted Kennedy is fit to hold an office.

I'm not even going to address #1 because that displays a level of stupidity and ignorance I can't even fathom.

However, in reference to #2, I actually agree with you that he has not done much yet. As far as qualifications go, they are slim at best. However, Bush's "qualifications" were that he was governor of one of the poorest run states in the country and brought numerous businesses into mountains of debt through poor business practices. Yet somehow we not only elected him but re-elected him despite his idiocy, his failure at everything over his four year tenure, and his complete and utter disregard for not only the constitution and the country it protects, but also his failure at even being a true REPUBLICAN by increasing the powers of the executive branch beyond any point in history.

And besides, just because Barack H. Obama doesn't have a long record, I do like him and his ideas, and as far as I'm concerned that gives me reason to like him as well. Also, if you had actually read all my posts, you would have seen that I would prefer him as Vice President, because he is young enough that he can still be president in 8 years and will be an even stronger candidate. But if reading makes your eyes hurt, I accept that.

Maybe you're not addressing #1 because you don't have an intelligent answer?

I certainly won't side with Bush on everything he's done, but I think that "failure at everything" is a bit harsh. I keep forgetting that the goal of a Democrat is to disagree with every single thing done by any Republican.

I'm not addressing number 1 because the Iraqis are killing American soldier's daily and protesting in the streets about our invasion of their country.

And you're right, I do disagree with basically everything Bush and the Republicans have done. But let's be fair, I am both liberal and democrat, and currently the Republicans are both Conservative and Republican, and until they pass legislation that affects me (I only saved 200 dollars with their tax breaks) that is not partisan (flag burning, banning gay marriage, and tax cuts for the wealthy are all partisan) I can't support them. Even his "clear skies act" actually lessened the restrictions that were already in place. I almost supported his guest worker program, but it got shut down, so I couldn't. I'm actually a lot more accepting than it appears, but I'm also steadfast and they need to do something I actually approve of, or something completely bi-partisan, like healthcare or helping the poor.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm terribly interested in this discussion and I'd love to pursue it, but the fact of the matter is that I just don't have the time. I blog during downtime at work and there just isn't much of that lately.

As for linking to me, I'm not picky about it. You should be aware though, that you're not going to be pointing at a Micheal Savage worshiping extreme right winger, I just tend to call things as I see them.

Meh, spirited debate is still fun. And I don't mind linking to you, provided of course I label your blog with some sort of pro-liberal, anti-conservative humor (hence, Neocon links) to fit in with the theme of my posts.

Only thing I ask of you, though, is that if you read this post if you can change my link to "Librocrat" instead of "Libocrat." Then you may vehemently argue with me at will.

Good luck to you (with moderation, of course) and until we discuss again, take care. And vote blue...

Someday.

Funny how your own sarcasm bit off your own ass. Obama, being a true DEMOCRAT, has increased the power of the executive branch exponentially higher than Bush (or any other president) ever has! Obama at this moment has a bill in the works to make him dictator-oops, I meant president, indefinitely. I feel sorry for our children and what they are going to live.
